I believe that data collection will be very important to the success of my classroom. One way that I plan to collect classroom data is through surveys. One survey that I could give out at the beginning of the school year could be used to collect information about my students' learning philosophies. I could create a questionnaire with questions about different teaching approaches and how helpful they could be to students. This type of data collection could help guide my teaching for the rest of the year so that students would enjoy coming to my class. I could also use Excel to keep track of my students' data. I could keep track of test scores and assignments for a chapter and then average them out for a chapter grade using Excel. I could use this information at the end of the year to help students improve in problem areas before the end of course exams. I am looking to become a high school economics teacher and this information could help students because of the independent assistance they will be able to receive from me.
I enjoyed reading through my classmate's ILPs. I mostly read through presentations about Lynda tutorials and Prezis. Lynda tutorials are great because they allow one to learn a skill that could be useful later in life. This could be used to aid one's own personal development and grow as an educator. Prezi is an interesting program as well. This is a presentation program that is used to create more interesting lessons. This is most likely going to be the topic of my next ILP after discovering how fun it looks!
My next adventure with technology will most likely be to pursue a Microsoft Office certification. This program is a series of tests given by Microsoft at a testing center designed to increase your knowledge of Office programs. I have learned a lot about Microsoft from this class and feel prepared to take the entry level certification exams. Having a Microsoft Office Certification is desirable to employers and could help me get a job by proving my technical capabilities.
