The concept of "flipped classrooms" is very interesting and holds a lot of potential for classroom engagement. A flipped classroom is one that utilizes educational videos to teach students outside of the classroom and allows for more interactivity and engagement in class. This concept is an example of a blended classroom. A blended classroom is one that uses the internet to digitally engage students. Many of my honors classes at FSU are "flipped classrooms". Almost all of my honors classes are completely discussion based and this helps facilitate my learning. One digital resource that a teacher can used in a flipped classroom is Khan Academy.
The two "open" terms I will use the most are open courses and open content. Open courses refer to free online courses that anyone can access. These can be used to gain professional development points as a teacher and give students additional resources. An example of this is taking an online MOOC. The other type of the term "open" that I will use will be open content. Open content is similar to digital copyright. Open content allows for teachers to use other materials without the risk of copyright. This includes photos, stories, and lesson plans shared on learning commons sites. One good website to use for this is https://www.oercommons.org/
I have learned many new skills from both of the powerpoint projects that were assigned. PowerPoint is a form of presentation software from Microsoft and is very useful for teachers. The first assignment focused on information dissemination. This is the most common use of Powerpoint and is more simplistic than the second assignment. This assignment was helpful because I learned how to use animations, create slides with slide master, and add smooth transitions. I enjoyed this assignment the most and plan to use many powerpoints in my classroom. The second assignment was to create a nonlinear powerpoint. A nonlinear powerpoint makes use of action buttons in order to create make your own adventure type games, quizzes, and interactive lessons. I learned how to disable linear navigation, use action buttons, and move fluidly through powerpoint from this assignment. I do not believe I will use hypermedia presentations in my classroom because it is too much work to create them often. I have attached images of slides from both of my projects below.
