(1) ILP - Participation "Complete a MOOC"

For my Individual Learning Project I chose to complete a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC). I chose to complete Amnesty International's course: Human Rights: The Rights of Refugees. To access this course click here.

Course Description

This course discusses the issues that refugees face in host countries and what citizens can do to become activists for this cause. The modules all centered around a different concept in refugee protection. Each module was made up of sub-quizzes, videos, and discussion questions. The sub-quizzes in each module served as practice for the end of module exams. The videos are very informative because they cover relevant topics are from Amnesty International. The discussion questions were my favorite part of the course because they allowed me to connect with students around the world and see new ideas about refugee protection. The end of the course contained an end of course exam and provided an option $49 certificate, which I did not get.

Activity Log

I completed this course over two and a half weeks. I took screenshots of all five module exam grades to provide an activity log and product evidence.

Module One- Displacement

This module discussed the basics of refugee displacement and provided a background on current refugee crises.

Module Two-  The Flight

This module discussed the issues that refugees face as they are leaving their homes and when they become "stateless people".

Module Three- In a New Country

This module discussed social, political, and economic problems that refugees encounter when they arrive in a new country.

Module Four- Taking Action

This module discussed the variety of ways to get involved with helping refugees in one's own community.

Product Evidence

End of Course Proof-

The end of course exam was comprehensive and covered a range of topics selected from different modules. I completed it with a score of 100% and posted proof of my course completion below.

From this lesson I gained knowledge in to how to protect and serve refugees in my community. I am currently setting up a social media outreach among my peers to "friend" refugees on Facebook and Instagram to make them feel welcome in our community. Since I completed this course I have also begun tutoring refugees at Lincoln High School. This course allowed me to expand my skills for interacting with a diverse array of people.
