ELA technology standards are important in order to increase technological literacy in the classroom. One standard that I feel like I am ready to teach is the consumption of "use of multiple resources". This standard emphasizes the ability to gather relevant information from multiple resources, assess the credibly and reliability of each source, and avoid plagiarism. Students need to have the ability to integrate outside information in to their assignments. The ability to asses the credibility of sources will be incredibly important in a student's professional future as well. I feel like I am suited to teach this already because I have a lot of existing knowledge about this topic from years of lectures about plagiarism. One standard that I need more experience with is the production standard "write to explain and inform". This standard emphasizes the importance of using informative texts and graphics in order to assist students in understanding complex materials. This standard integrates a knowledge of graphics, formatting, and charts in to lesson plans. I need more help understanding how to properly integrate graphics and charts in to my plans.

Digital citizenship is an important concept for students in the twenty-first century. Digital citizenship is the ability for a student to act as a responsible citizen on the internet. I believe that Netsmartz, a tool that fosters digital citizenship, should be implemented in classrooms across America. This site creates interactive, fun scenarios that captivate students' attention spans and increases web responsibility. Netsmartz integrates comics, videos, games, and unique characters designed to inform school children of the concept of digital citizenship. I believe that students of all ages need to be able to use technological tools, understand the importance of a digital community, and protect their personal information online. I believe that it is more important for high school students to understand "netiquette", obey copyright laws, and act properly on social media.

I enjoyed creating a newsletter as part of our assignment. I am still in the process of creating my newsletter. I acquired several new skills through this assignment. Before this assignment I have never created a column, a border, or an advanced header. I would consider myself much more skilled at word than I ever have been before. I would highly recommend this assignment to any potential teacher. I loved every part of this assignment. This newsletter will help me design future ones to use in my classroom when I start teaching.

I have attached my work in progress newsletter below. I could only upload it to Blogger in a google drive attachment, therefore some of the formatting changed in the transfer, the full one being submitted Friday will not have the same issues.

  1. I agree that Netsmartz is a great resource for digital citizenship. How you would implement it into your high school class? There are many different resources available. How would you decide what to use and when to use it?
