EME2040 Introductory Blog Post 



Technology has been an important part of my life since I was a very young child. I remember logging on to my mother's computer to play various games on CD ROM. As I progressed through life my technological prowess progressed as well. In elementary school I would work with groups in a computer lab to write book reports on Microsoft Word and create presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint. Many of my classrooms were equipped with ActivBoards as well. I owned a flip phone and an iPad when I entered middle school and finally bought an iPhone before going to high school. Since high school, I have owned several Macbooks and frequently use Apple products. I am proficient with learning management systems such as Canvas and Blackboard as well.

I hope to learn much more about technology in this class than I already do. I hope to become an educator in the future and feel that this course will help prepare me for my future. I hope to gain a greater understanding of the mechanics of Canvas and other learning management systems to start. Teachers view and run these systems in ways that students do not see. I feel like it would be beneficial to see how these systems work in order to use them more effectively in the classroom. I also would like to strengthen my skills in Microsoft Excel. I have used this system infrequently in my past ventures and would love to know more tips and tricks to increase my efficiency.

The concept of "flipped classrooms" is very interesting and holds a lot of potential for classroom engagement. A flipped classroom is one that utilizes educational videos to teach students outside of the classroom and allows for more interactivity and engagement in class. My experience with using Twitter as a personal learning network has been very positive so far. I have connected with many educational accounts including Edutopia, Eduporium, and Edublogs. This connection has made me feel more involved in the educational community. I have learned a lot from using Twitter as well. I have learned mostly from the account Edutopia. I have viewed many links that they shared about the new innovations in educational technology. I have also connected with educational gaming accounts. Classcraft is an educational program that allows learning in video game form. They have liked several of my tweets and I have tweeted to them a couple times. I also learned that using Twitter as a personal learning network is great in order to make connections for the future. I have not experienced any issues with Twitter so far.
